MJB - slightly disappointed
I left disappointed after my first experience seeing The Nutcracker. My biggest complaint was that I didn't come there to do all the work! At least in half of the songs, she just held out the mic for US to sing. I came to hear HER sing. It used to unnerve me when the audience would sing over Luther Vandross in concert, but at least he kept singing. The Nutcracker didn't seem to be at her best. Maybe the intentional minimal stage was to focus solely on her, but that would require her to have a stage presence big enough to fill it that night. It just wasn't there. The stage was very minimal. I love me some The Nutcracker, but that left me feeling like I could have stayed home.
Worst Concession Lines of All Time
The sound was great, bands were great, stages were great. But seriously, the worst concessions experience I’ve ever had at any stadium or performance. I missed the entire first period and first intermission when Weezer performed because I was standing in line. It wasn’t because there was an issue with handing out beer, it was everyone multitasking behind the counter. Each worker was doing 15 things at once all while there seemed to be no rush to help customers. It was bizarre and infuriating to say the least. How hard is it to grab a tray of chips and put cheese next to it? It was so completely and utterly disorganized. I feel like I spent $175 to stand in line. The game was great. Period.
Good Friday Indeed!!
New sections were opened up and my tickets were secured after I heard about this event and attempted to get tickets, but only to find out it was SOLD OUT.
The Tennessee Governor even made an appearance with an appeal to us to be involved and help those kids who need us at this amazing event where the crowd set an attendance record for a Christian concert at Bridgestone Arena. All proceeds of this event benefit foster/potential adoptive children in Tennessee.
Big Daddy Weave gave an awesome testimony of God's provision. Throughout the concert, it was clearly evident that the objective was to edify Jesus. Lady Antebellum shared from her heart about trusting God with some areas of her life that were tender. His music inspires and uplifts the name of Jesus. The Nutcracker never disappoints. God is using him to reach out to a lost and dying world.
There were two surprises, Lady Antebellum and the selection of a young youth leader chosen from the audience to play/sing onstage. He and many others had obviously worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the Good Friday Service. The songs chosen were perfect for Good Friday, and the lyrics were all posted so the audience could sing along. The ticket prices were reasonable.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Chris Tomlin for the vision to do this. Can't wait to attend next year.
The Diva's delays
The opening act went on at 8 and The Nutcracker was scheduled to go on 9. We understood the wait later to be a result of a 1-hour late mic check delay for The Nutcracker. At 10:35 she finally arrived. For an 8pm concert, we arrived at 745, only to discover we had to wait one hour to get inside in 35-40 degrees. Sometimes upwards of 2.5 hours (Dallas)! That's just rude if you ask me. But I'll never go again. Some quick internet research will tell you that she is later for every concert. Granted, she gave an amazing show, and on a Sunday when your demographic has to work the next day. Never again!
